Free Yacht Trips

Here is a FREE way to search for sunken treasure; go on a week-long fishing expedition; travel around the Caribbean or to South America or Europe.

Have you ever wanted to sail the seven seas on a sloop, a schooner, or a yacht, but don’t know “fore” from “aft”?  There is a way!

Of course, you can always sign up for a Windjammer Cruise or some other non-thrifty trip.  On the other hand, you can work your way around the Caribbean (or around the world) diving, snorkeling, racing, or just enjoying the water.

Even if you aren’t particularly athletic, and don’t have any desire to “hoist the sails,” there are other services you can offer if you have any skills.  Are you a trained nurse, CNA, or massage therapist?  Can you cook?  Do you have a video camera so you can document the trip?  Are you a writer or photographer or scuba diver?

Here are some things you can do.  Go to a marina and start spreading the word that you are interested in exchanging work for free passage.  This will appeal to some yacht owners who are happy to have the help without the hassles of an additional paid employee.

Talk to individual yacht owners.  See if the yacht club will let you put a notice on their bulletin board or in their newsletter announcing your availability.  Do a keyword search on the Internet.  Or go to your local library and look through yachting and boating magazines.  See what kinds of classified ads appear.  You might want to place one there yourself.

Type up a Letter of Introduction to give to yacht owners which includes your background, your experience, what type of trip(s) you are interested in being part of, your insurance coverage, and references.  Including your photo is a plus.  Then print copies of it on your inkjet printer or at an office supply store or print shop.  The more professional and credible you appear, the easier it will be to get free passage to Hong Kong or Cancun or Europe.
