Cape Fear: “Hollywood East”

August 11, 2008 · Filed Under Attractions, Entertainment, United States · Comment

Did you know that Wilmington and North Carolina’s Cape Fear Coast is often referred to as “Hollywood East”?  That’s because North Carolina ranks as the third busiest film-making destination for U.S. film production.  Since 1983, more than 400 projects have been filmed here.  Who knows?  A chance celebrity sighting could occur while you’re shopping or dining or touring.

A weekend of movie-making magic includes a guided weekend tour of EUE/Screen Gems Studios, the largest movie production facility east of Los Angeles.  There’s also a walking tour of downtown movie locations, including Sleeping with the Enemy, Blue Velvet, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Weekend at Bernie’s, A Walk to Remember, and dozens more.  ($12 for adults; $10 for seniors/students/military; ages 6 and under, free.)

Also the Visitor’s Bureau offers free FAQ (Frequently-Asked Questions) sheets with self-guided tours to locations used in Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill.

Planet Snoopy

August 11, 2008 · Filed Under Attractions, Children, Entertainment, Family Travel, United States · Comment

Cedar Point amusement park and resort, located in Sandusky, Ohio, recently opened this Peanuts-themed area.  It’s a must-do for any Peanuts lover.   It features seven rides that young children can ride by themselves or with their parents.  There are also games, plenty of seating and shaded areas, and a Family Care Center that provides changing stations and rooms for feeding and nursing in a private atmosphere as well as First Aid.  Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and most of the other Peanuts characters also make special appearances.

Next door to Planet Snoopy is the Joe Cool Café that caters to young children by offering favorites such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, and kid-sized pizzas.  For dessert, creamy milkshakes and freshly-baked dog bone cookies are irresistible.  Each child’s meal is served in a souvenir Snoopy lunch box.

And don’t miss Snoopy’s Big Bow Wow On Ice, kind of a Snoopy “Ice Capades”!  Of course there is plenty for mom and dad and the older kids to do at Cedar Point which has 75 rides, including 17 roller coasters (more rides and more coasters than any park in the world).
