How to Avoid Paying Spirit Airlines’ New Carry-On Bag Fee of $100

Spirit AirlinesI used to love flying on Spirit Airlines.  They used to be so friendly, and their prices were really great to the destinations they serviced.   While they are still considered a “bargain airline,” be aware that they are charging more and more for carry-on bag fees and other hidden fees.

When you are checking Spirit Airlines’ ticket prices, be sure to figure in their additional costs.  They have charges for checked-in baggage and overweight baggage and oversize baggage and sporting equipment and seat reservations and special services and food and drink, in addition to hefty cancellation or modification fees.

No, they aren’t alone in this outrage, but they are only one of two airlines who charge fees for carry-on luggage.  And now they’re going to raise their fees.  Do you think $45 for a carry-on bag is a little steep?  I do, since most airlines allow FREE carry-ons.  They’ve been charging that since 2010.

However, as of November 2012, you could be paying as much as $100 per carry-on bag on Spirit Airlines!!  That could be more than the cost of your airline ticket!

Okay, here’s how to avoid paying Spirit Airlines’ new carry-on bag fee of $100.

How to Avoid Catching a Cold or the Flu from Airplane Germs

by Juan Vives

Airplane germsYou can protect yourself from catching a flu bug, cold, or airplane germs in a crowded airplane by following a few simple rules. There is nothing worse than arriving sick at your vacation spot or taking home a cold as a souvenir.  A few of the best healthy travel practices will help you avoid catching a cold or the flu from germs floating around the airplane cabin.

Plane air is filtered and flows from the cabin ceiling to the floor, so the danger is mainly from the noses, mouths, and hands of people sitting around you, and the objects you touch during the flight.

Here is a list that will help you avoid catching a cold or the flu and protect yourself from airplane germs on your flight:

  • It is all about who you are sharing your armrest with. If your neighbor is sneezing, ask the flight attendant if you can sit somewhere else.  Or if you can find an open spot once the airplane is in flight and the “fasten your seatbelt light” is off, just move. Your neighbor may actually appreciate the extra space.

Need a Taxi at Bangkok International Airport (BKK)? Know your Price!

by Juan Vives

Here is another post to help you plan your travel, save travel money, and avoid travel scams.  Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport is pretty easy to get around.  Knowing a few things about transportation at the BKK Airport will save you some travel time and money.  The Bangkok Airport is around 21 miles from the center of Bangkok. Taking a taxi at the Bangkok Airport is the most convenient and easiest way to reach your hotel.

The first time I landed in the Bangkok Airport I picked up a random taxi at the ground level of the airport. I asked them to use the meter and the meter posted 700 TBH when I arrived at my Bangkok hotel.

The second time I landed in Bangkok, I decided to follow the Bangkok Airport Taxi signs and take an official taxi. The driver says he will take me to the city center for 400TBH. I thought it was bargain ride since last time I paid much higher fee with meter. So, no meter, 400 TBH, OK Sir? Yes sure, go ahead.  Sir pays the tolls for the highway.  Ok, no problem.

The third time I landed in Bangkok Airport I decided to take an official taxi and this time go with the meter since nothing else was offered.  And here you go, the ride to the city center is only 260 TBH! (less than US$10)

The first time the meter was manipulated; the second time it was a verbal agreement; the third time we got it right!  Keep reading for a detailed explanation of what you need to know if you choose to take a taxi from the Bangkok International Airport to the city center of Bangkok.
