April 21, 2009 · Filed Under Accommodations, Freebies, Travel Discounts · Comment

Wouldn’t it be great if you could travel throughout the United States and the world and not have to pay for your accommodations?  With airlines being forced to raise their fares, and car travel increasing in cost thanks to high gas prices, here are some great options that are genuine freebies, plus some really inexpensive alternatives as well.

The price tag is usually some type of time or effort instead of money and/or a membership fee plus small gratuity.  Most lodgings are high-quality and can include adventures and extraordinary travel memories that you couldn’t get any other way.

Be a property caretaker on a grand estate or at a hunting lodge; work on an organic farm or wildlife preserve; teach a class; make new friends; make a difference; and stay there (in any state, province, or country) rent-free.

Be willing to try something new.  There are no age restrictions.  The price is right!  And the rewards can be amazing.

This wealth of information and options is available to you for only $9.95 for the PDF version.  A mailed  version is available as well (add $4 for shipping in the U.S.; add $8 internationally).

Chateau Camping in France

April 4, 2009 · Filed Under Accommodations, Camping, Europe · Comment

Exactly 50 years ago, a novel idea was born.  Georges Pilliet began to encourage chateau owners to open up their properties to campers.  Some agreed, and the first outdoor hotel chain was born.  It was called Les Castels.  Today, there are 39 cha-teaux, country homes, and historic houses in the Castels family.

Many of these four-star campgrounds provide activities for the entire family.  The campsites are located amidst magnificent landscapes with breath-taking views.  Usually located on many acres of land, you have plenty of opportunities for peaceful relaxation.

Services include restaurants, bars, stores, Internet access, and ATM machines.  Most of the Castels allow tents as well as RVs or camper-vans, although a few do not have tent sites available.

But what they all have is great quality at thrifty prices; a very affordable way to see France.

The best way to learn about the different properties is by visiting their website at http://www.les-castels.com/en.

Or you can write to: Les Castels; Manoir de Terre-Rouge; 35270 Bonnemain, FRANCE.
