Cape Fear: “Hollywood East”

Did you know that Wilmington and North Carolina’s Cape Fear Coast is often referred to as “Hollywood East”?  That’s because North Carolina ranks as the third busiest film-making destination for U.S. film production.  Since 1983, more than 400 projects have been filmed here.  Who knows?  A chance celebrity sighting could occur while you’re shopping or dining or touring.

A weekend of movie-making magic includes a guided weekend tour of EUE/Screen Gems Studios, the largest movie production facility east of Los Angeles.  There’s also a walking tour of downtown movie locations, including Sleeping with the Enemy, Blue Velvet, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Weekend at Bernie’s, A Walk to Remember, and dozens more.  ($12 for adults; $10 for seniors/students/military; ages 6 and under, free.)

Also the Visitor’s Bureau offers free FAQ (Frequently-Asked Questions) sheets with self-guided tours to locations used in Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill.
