I have both knees replaced (with titanium) and I guess you don't always get to just walk through a x-ray machine.I was in a glassed in area, but seperated from my bags. I had to ask her if I could get them. I only had a carry-on, and my personal bag, but she had me point them out and got them for me. Believe me--my eyes never left them!! I couldn't believe the attendant at the end of the conveyor just took them off and put them off to the side!You are certainly right to say to keep your eyes on them at all times, especially if you are traveling alone.
